Auto break-even at TP1 when you can't get to your phone
The VIP group posts "TP1 hit, move SL to BE" while you're at work or driving. By the time you open MT5, price has come back through your entry and the trade has run all the way to its original stop.
Trade By Focus covers this in two ways. It can move your stop to break-even by itself when a take profit is hit, and it can act on the group's own follow-up messages. If you've been searching for how to move stop to break even automatically in MT5, this is the setting that does it. Both run on Trade By Focus servers, so your app can be shut and your phone can stay in your pocket.
Break-even at TP1, without waiting for the group
To open the group's settings, tap Signals in the bottom bar (or go to Auto → Telegram Signals), then tap Edit on the group's card. The screen is called Signal settings.
Switch on Always move to break-even. Every trade from that group then moves its stop to the entry price once your chosen take profit is hit, even if the group never says to. The Break-even level picker sets which take profit does it: the first, second, third or fourth. The toggle is off until you turn it on.
Choosing the first take profit moves the stop soonest, but if price dips back to entry, the rest of the trade closes before it reaches the later targets. Choosing a later one keeps the group's stop in place longer, which gives the trade room to dip and carry on. If the group calls break-even itself, that call is held to the level you chose, so it can't pull your stop up any earlier.
This toggle only works when the group is set to Follow their signals exactly. If the group is on Use my preset, break-even comes from the preset instead. In the preset editor, use Move the stop to break-even at. It has the same choices plus Step it up at each take profit, which moves the stop up again as each target fills.
When the group posts a follow-up
If a group is set to Follow their signals exactly and Trade signals, later messages about a call are matched to that group's open trade and carried out. That covers moving to break-even, moving the SL to a price, closing half and closing now. The matching is cautious on purpose. A message is acted on when it clearly belongs to the trade, for example a reply to the original signal, or a message when the group has only one trade open. Anything unclear is left for you to handle in the Manage panel.
Moving to break-even never closes your trade at a loss. The group's entry is often better than yours, so a trade that is "risk free" for them can be slightly underwater for you. If your trade is in profit, the stop moves straight away. If it isn't, Trade By Focus waits, then moves the stop once the trade is back in profit and stays there for about a minute. If it hasn't recovered within a few minutes, your stop stays where it is and a take profit is placed at break-even, so the trade closes flat if price comes back to your entry. On the chart you'll see a flashing line reading "MOVE TO BREAK-EVEN RECEIVED" with a "Waiting for profit" countdown.
Calls to take profit, like "close partials" or "take profit now", follow the same rule. If your trade is at a loss at your own price, it isn't closed. A plain "close now" or "close all" is still carried out either way.
If you never want the group moving your stop or closing you early, switch on Ignore the group's break-even and close-early calls. New target and stop levels from the group still apply.
On Use my preset, the group's follow-ups are recorded but not acted on. Your preset manages the exit.
What to watch
- Your MT5 account has to stay connected. If the connection drops and can't reconnect, break-even and partial closes stop until you sign back in. A stop or take profit already set at the broker still triggers.
- 0.01 lots can't be split. At 0.01 lots the whole position closes at its first take profit, so there is nothing left to move to break-even. That's the broker's minimum lot size, not a fault.
- The trigger take profit has to close part of the trade. If a take profit's share is set to 0%, it closes nothing, so it can never trigger break-even. Pick a later take profit as the trigger instead.
- Fills can land past your entry. A break-even stop fills at the next market price, which in a fast gold move can be a few points past your entry.
- Notifications are off by default. To get a push when the group posts a follow-up, go to Profile → Notifications and turn on Signal Notifications.
