How to Connect Your MT5 Account and Actually Manage Trades From Your Phone
Managing MT5 trades properly — the bit nobody explains
Most guides on trading MT5 jump straight to "open a chart, place a trade" and call it done. Then you spend twenty minutes staring at a position that's moved against you, trying to work out how to partial close on mobile, whether your trailing stop is actually active, and why your news filter isn't doing anything. This fills in the gaps.
What you need: an MT5 broker account (live or demo), your login credentials, and the Trade By Focus app on your phone. That's it. No installs on your desktop, no VPS, no compiling anything.
Connecting your broker account
Trade By Focus runs MT5 in the cloud. You don't install anything locally — you just connect your existing broker account through the app. Open Trade By Focus, go to account settings, and enter your MT5 login number, password, and broker server name. The server name is the one you'd normally type into the MT5 desktop login screen — something like BrokerName-Live or BrokerName-Real. Your broker's welcome email usually has it.
Once connected, your account syncs. Live positions, open orders, balance, margin — all of it pulls through. If you've already got trades running on the account from another terminal, you'll see them immediately.
Demo accounts work exactly the same way. Same process, same app. Good for getting familiar before you're doing this with real money.
The session timing thing — easy one to miss
A lot of traders set up conditional entries or automated entry tasks without thinking about what time those orders are supposed to trigger. Trade By Focus works in UTC. So does MT5's server time — typically UTC+2 or UTC+3 depending on DST.
Get this wrong and your entry fires an hour early or an hour late. For strategies around the London open (08:00 UTC) or the New York open (13:30 UTC), that difference matters enormously. A breakout entry triggering at 07:00 UTC instead of 08:00 UTC catches the pre-London chop, not the actual move.
When you're setting entry tasks or news-blackout windows in Trade By Focus, double-check whether you're working in UTC or your local time. The app labels it clearly — just don't skip past it.
Setting up entry tasks and letting Trade By Focus manage the execution
This is where the app earns its keep. Rather than sitting at your desk waiting for price to reach a level, you set a conditional entry task — price hits X, entry fires, stop and target set automatically. You can do this from your phone in under a minute.
For something like a EURUSD NY Open Breakout, that means: set your entry level above the pre-session range high, configure the stop below the range low, attach a target, and leave it. Trade By Focus places the order when the condition's met. You don't need to be watching.
Same principle applies to Asia Range setups or London session breakouts. The structure of the trade — range identification, entry trigger, stop placement — is still your job as the trader. Trade By Focus handles the execution so you're not glued to a chart at 08:00 UTC every morning.
Partial closes and trailing stops from your phone
This is the one desktop MT5 makes genuinely painful on mobile. Partial closing a position mid-session, or trailing a stop as price moves in your favour — both involve too many taps on the standard broker app, usually at exactly the wrong moment.
Trade By Focus has one-tap partial closes built in. You set your partial close levels when you're calm — before the trade triggers, or as soon as you're in — and the app handles it when price gets there. You can take 50% off at 1R and trail the rest without having to do anything at the exact moment the market's moving.
Trailing stops work the same way. Set the trail from your phone — fixed pip distance, ATR-based, or tied to a level — and it follows the position. You're not manually dragging a stop line on a tiny screen while price is running.
News blackouts and drawdown limits
High-impact news events wreck a lot of trades that were perfectly structured. The Trade By Focus news-blackout feature lets you define windows around events — say, 15 minutes either side of NFP or a central bank decision — where no new entries fire. If you've got an entry task sitting armed and ready, it won't trigger during the blackout. That's by design, not a bug.
The economic calendar in the app shows upcoming high-impact events for the pairs you're trading. Check it before you set entry tasks. A breakout trade on GBPUSD that triggers two minutes before a Bank of England rate decision is not the setup you thought it was.
Daily drawdown limits work as a hard floor. You set a maximum drawdown for the day — say 2% of account balance — and if that's hit, no further entries are allowed until the next session. Forces a stop-loss on the day before one bad session turns into two bad sessions.
If a trade isn't behaving as expected
A few things to check. Is the entry task set to the right instrument and session window? Is the news blackout active around that period — that's intentional hold-off, not a fault. Did the entry condition actually get met, or did price come close but not quite touch the level?
Trade By Focus keeps an automatic journal of every trade — entry, exit, partial closes, anything the account does. The AI coaching layer watches your live trades as they develop and flags when a trade is drifting from the pattern you've been executing — overholding losers, cutting winners early, trading outside your better sessions. Not a robot making decisions for you. A second pair of eyes that doesn't get bored or distracted.
For the session-based strategies — London open, NY open, Asia range — the trade replay feature lets you go back through exactly what happened, where your entry sat relative to the actual move, and whether the timing was right. That feedback loop is what separates traders who improve from those who just repeat the same mistakes with more confidence.
