Connecting VT Markets to Trade By Focus: 5-Minute Setup

VT markets Trade By Focus setup, start to finish

Most broker setup guides spend three paragraphs explaining what a broker is. You don't need that. What you need is the exact sequence — VT account, deposit, correct server string, hosted login — without wading through marketing copy. This is that guide.

VT Markets is the recommended broker pairing for Trade By Focus for a straightforward reason: the spread structure and IB rebate arrangement work in your favour as an active manual trader. Raw spreads on majors sit around 0.0 pips on the Raw account (commission applies), which matters when you're doing any meaningful volume on EURUSD or GBPUSD. That's not a small thing when you're trading sessions daily.

Step one: open your VT Markets account

Go to vtmarkets.com and register. You'll want the Raw ECN account type rather than Standard — Standard bakes the spread in, Raw separates spread from commission, and Trade By Focus's lot calculator works better when your cost structure is transparent.

Verification is standard KYC: passport or driving licence, proof of address dated within three months. VT's onboarding runs relatively fast. Most UK and EU applicants clear it same day, sometimes within a couple of hours.

Once approved, you'll land in the VT client portal. Make a note of your account number. You'll need it in a few minutes.

Step two: fund the account

From the client portal, hit the deposit tab. Card and bank transfer both work. Minimums are low — you don't need to commit serious capital just to get the platform running and test the connection.

If you're treating this seriously, deposit enough to trade at sensible lot sizes relative to your stop distances. Depositing £200 and trading 1.0 lots on GBPUSD isn't a setup problem; it's a risk problem. But that's a separate conversation.

Once the deposit clears, the account is live and tradeable.

Step three: find the right server name

This is where most setups go wrong. MT5 brokers run multiple servers — live, demo, and sometimes geographic variants. Connecting to the wrong one means your login details are correct but authentication fails, which looks identical to a wrong password. Frustrating.

For VT Markets, the live MT5 server strings are typically in the format VTMarkets-Live or VTMarkets-Live 2 depending on when your account was created. The exact string is visible in your VT client portal under Account Details, or in the welcome email they send on approval.

Copy it exactly. A single character difference breaks the connection.

Step four: connect via hosted MT5 in Trade By Focus

This is where the VT markets Trade By Focus setup actually gets interesting, because you're not installing MT5 on your phone or setting up a VPS.

Trade By Focus runs a hosted MT5 environment on managed cloud hardware. You forward your account number and password once through the app's secure login flow, it connects to VT's server on your behalf, and the connection runs persistently from cloud to broker — not from your phone. That matters because the official MT5 mobile app disconnects every time your phone locks or switches apps. Hosted MT5 stays live.

In the Trade By Focus app, tap Connect Broker and select MT5. Enter your VT account number, your MT5 password (the investor password won't work — use your main password), and paste in the server string you copied from step three. Tap connect.

I had this wrong the first time I set up a hosted connection, using the demo server string on a live account. It fails silently on the password stage, which is a fun few minutes of doubting yourself. Check the server string first, before anything else, if authentication fails.

The hosted connection establishes in under a minute if the server string is right. Your open positions, balance, and margin all populate in the dashboard.

What you can do once connected

This is the practical part. The VT markets Trade By Focus setup isn't an end in itself — it's what you can do from that point that changes how you trade.

From the Trade By Focus dashboard, you get live charts with your positions plotted on them, a lot calculator that references your account balance and current spread in real time, and one-tap partial closes. If you want to close half a position at TP1 and trail the rest, that's a single tap rather than three screens of form entry.

The AI trade coaching watches your live positions against whatever plan you've noted — if you said you were holding for a 40-pip target and the position is sitting at 38 pips approaching the London close at 16:00 UTC, it'll flag whether your original reasoning still holds. It doesn't close the trade. It asks the question.

Entry tasks are worth mentioning here too. If you're watching a London range setup on GBPUSD and want to buy a break above the range high without sitting at your desk through the 08:00 UTC open, you set the condition in Trade By Focus and let it place the order. The journal entry writes itself afterwards — entry price, spread at execution, time, result.

News blackouts connect directly to the VT account too. You can set a blackout window around high-impact GBP or USD events — say, 30 minutes either side of NFP — and new entries are paused automatically. Your existing positions stay open; you just can't fire new ones into the spike. That's a guardrail that actually works when you're not watching.

Why VT specifically

Spread quality on Raw is competitive for manual traders doing their own execution. The IB rebate structure also means a portion of commission comes back via Trade By Focus's broker partnership — so you're not paying full rack rate if you come through the affiliate link. That's a real difference on volume, even modest volume.

For MT5 connectivity, VT's servers are stable. I've seen some brokers where the hosted connection drops every few hours for reasons that trace back to the broker's server configuration. VT hasn't been that. The manual trading setup guide covers broker reliability in more depth if you want the full picture.

If you want to run VT Markets through a proper phone-first dashboard rather than the standard MT5 mobile app, Trade By Focus is live at tradebyfocus.com with a 7-day free trial — hosted MT5, AI coaching, auto-journal, news blackouts, the lot. The VT connection takes about five minutes to get running.
