Build a No Code Trading Bot for MT5 — Without Touching a Single Line of Code

Every trader who's been around long enough eventually thinks the same thing: I know what I'm looking for, I just can't be at the screen when it sets up. That thought usually leads to one of two places — hiring someone to code an Expert Advisor, or just missing the move. Neither is great. But there's a third option now, and it doesn't involve writing MQL5 or commissioning anything. Trade By Focus lets you build a no code trading bot for MT5 using plain-language building blocks, test it against real data, and run it from your phone — fully automatic if you want.

This post is about how that actually works in practice.

What the Automation builder actually is

Inside Trade By Focus, the feature is called Automation (not Tasks — worth being clear on that). You get to it from your connected MT5 account and it looks like a strategy builder: a list of conditions you stack together to describe an entry.

The building blocks cover the things most retail traders actually use. EMA crossovers, RSI levels, MACD signal crosses, Bollinger Band touches, Stochastic, ATR, ADX, break-of-structure, specific candle patterns, time-of-day filters, and a news filter that can block entries around high-impact events. You pick your conditions, set your parameters, and combine them however your strategy requires. No dropdown menus that quietly ignore each other. No mysterious property fields that only make sense if you already know MQL.

The result is a readable strategy. Something like: 15-minute chart, EMA 9 above EMA 21, RSI above 50, entry only between 08:00 and 11:00 UTC, no entries within 30 minutes of high-impact USD news. That's a London-session EMA pullback filter with a news blackout built in. A developer would charge a few hundred quid to code that. Here you've described it in about two minutes.

Three ways to run it

Once you've built the Automation, you choose how it fires. Notify-only just pings you when the conditions are met — you still place the trade manually. Useful if you want to monitor whether your logic actually triggers before you trust it with real money.

Semi-auto fires when conditions align, puts a 60-second countdown on your screen, and you confirm or cancel before anything hits the market. That's a good middle ground if you want oversight without having to watch the chart constantly.

Fully automatic executes without asking. Conditions met, order placed. The hosted engine runs on Trade By Focus's servers, so it keeps going whether your phone is locked, out of signal, or sitting on your kitchen counter at 2am when Tokyo opens at 00:00 UTC.

I spent months running strategies that only worked when I happened to be awake. The Tokyo session especially — by the time I was up the move was already halfway through its range. Fully automatic changes that calculation entirely.

Backtest it before it touches a live trade

This is the part that actually matters. Before any Automation goes live, you run a backtest against approximately 30 days of real historical data. The results show you how many times the conditions triggered, how the entries played out against price, and whether the logic has any edge at all — or whether it would have been chopped to pieces in last month's range-bound sessions.

That 30-day window is short enough to reflect current market conditions rather than a decade of backtested curve-fitting. If your EMA crossover strategy would have fired 40 times in a trending month but looks terrible across the last 30 days of sideways chop, you know. Adjust the filter, tighten the time window, add an ADX threshold so it only trades when there's actual directional movement — then run the backtest again before you commit.

This is a Pro plan feature, so it's not on the free tier. But it is included in the 7-day full Pro trial, which means you can build something properly and see whether it has any real merit before paying anything.

A practical example — EMA pullback on gold, London session

Gold during the London open (08:00 UTC) has a tendency to push directionally in the first hour when it's got a clear trend on the higher timeframe. An EMA pullback Automation for that session might look like: price above EMA 50 on the 15-minute chart, EMA 9 crossing back above EMA 21 after a brief dip, RSI above 50 and rising, time window 08:00–10:30 UTC, news filter active for USD and XAU events, max one position open at a time.

You backtest that against the last 30 days. If gold spent most of that period trending cleanly, the results will probably look encouraging. If it spent most of it grinding sideways and stopping out every breakout attempt, the backtest will show it — and you'll either add an ADX filter (say, ADX above 25 before entry) or decide the conditions aren't right for this logic right now.

All of that iteration happens before a single live trade. That's the point.

The rest of the platform does the heavy lifting too

Once an Automation fires and opens a trade, Trade By Focus's trade management engine takes over. You can attach a full TP ladder to every live position — up to five take-profit levels — with auto-breakeven that moves your stop to entry when TP1 hits, and a trailing stop that runs from TP1, TP2, or a fixed profit level. You set those rules once and the hosted engine manages them without you.

The automatic trade journal logs every Automation-triggered trade the same way it logs your manual ones — with entry, exit, session, instrument, duration, and the behavioural patterns that emerge across your history. Smart Insights will flag if your Automation is consistently losing during certain sessions or on specific pairs, which is exactly the kind of signal you want before it becomes an account-level problem.

The news blackout guardrail also layers on top independently — so even if your Automation's own news filter misses something, you can set a platform-level pause around high-impact events by currency and impact level. Two layers of protection is better than one.

Who this is actually for

If you're already writing MQL5 and you're happy doing it, this isn't aimed at you. But if you've got a rules-based approach — something you could describe out loud in a sentence or two — and you keep missing entries because you can't be at the screen, a no code trading bot for MT5 is worth a serious look.

The Automation builder in Trade By Focus won't replace a deeply complex multi-condition institutional strategy. What it will do is take a clear, testable edge and run it consistently, without you having to babysit it. That's the job most retail traders actually need done.

Trade By Focus is live at tradebyfocus.com with a 7-day free trial that includes full Pro access — Automations, backtesting, the trade management engine, the journal, Smart Insights, the lot. If you've got a strategy that's been living in your head, this is how you get it running on the market.
