MT5 Lot Size Calculator Mobile: Position Sizing That Actually Works on Your Phone

The problem with doing the maths yourself

You've got a setup. Price is at the level, the candle's closing, the spread's tight. You know your stop — 18 pips below entry on EURUSD. Now you need your lot size.

So you alt-tab out of MT5. Open the calculator app. Type in your balance. Work out 1% of it. Divide by the pip value. Remember the contract size is 100,000 units on standard lots. Get a number. Switch back to MT5. Fat-finger the lot field because your hands are in a rush. Send the order. Then realise you typed 1.2 instead of 0.12.

That's not a fringe scenario. That's a Friday afternoon, and it happens to experienced traders.

The mt5 lot size calculator mobile problem is deceptively simple: the official MT5 app doesn't give you a proper integrated size calculator. It gives you a lot field and a keyboard. The maths is your problem.

What a proper calculator actually needs to do

Lot size isn't complicated, but it has moving parts. Your account balance changes after every trade. Your risk percentage is a personal rule, not a fixed number. Your stop loss in pips depends on the setup. And the pip value varies by instrument — not every pair is quoted in USD, and instruments like gold (XAUUSD) and indices have completely different contract sizes to EURUSD.

That last bit is where most mobile calculators fall apart. A generic calculator that assumes a 100,000-unit contract and a $10-per-pip value will misprice your size on XAUUSD, on GBPJPY, on USDJPY — basically anything that isn't a plain dollar-denominated standard forex pair. Your broker also has a say in contract size, because some brokers run micro or mini lot structures as their default.

A calculator that doesn't account for the actual instrument spec from your actual broker account is producing a number that looks right but isn't.

How Trade By Focus handles it

Inside Trade By Focus, position sizing is built into the trade ticket — not bolted on as an afterthought. You enter three things: your risk percentage, your stop loss in pips, and it pulls your live account balance automatically. From those inputs it calculates the correct lot size in real time, using the actual contract specification for that instrument as reported by your connected broker.

So if you're sizing into a gold trade with a 14-pip stop, it's not using a generic XAUUSD contract size — it's using the spec your broker actually runs. Same for indices. Same for exotic pairs. The number you see is the number that matches your broker's margin calculator, because it's reading from the same source.

The calculation updates live as you adjust your stop or change the risk percentage. Move the stop from 14 pips to 20 pips, the lot size drops to keep your risk constant. Dial risk from 1% to 0.5%, it halves. You don't press calculate. It's just there.

This matters more on mobile than on desktop because you don't have a second screen. On a phone, every extra step — every app-switch, every manual division — is a place where a mistake enters. The mt5 lot size calculator mobile case needs to be zero friction or it doesn't work when you're actually in a trade.

The fat-finger problem is real

I've caught myself doing this after spending three minutes cross-referencing a pip value table on a separate browser tab, then going back to MT5 and typing the lot in wrong anyway. You end up checking the position in the terminal, seeing the margin isn't what you expected, closing it, and starting again. That whole sequence costs you the entry. The setup's gone or the spread's widened or price has moved 8 pips through your intended entry.

Avoiding the app-switch entirely is the point. When the lot size is already sitting in the order ticket, confirmed before you hit send, you don't have that problem. You review it, you tap, it goes.

Setting up the trade with sizing already done

The way this works in practice: you open a trade from the chart, pick your entry type, set your stop on the chart (or type the pip distance directly), set your risk percentage, and the lot field populates. You can override it manually if you want — sometimes you want a round lot for simplicity — but the default is always the sized number, not a blank.

From there you can layer on the trade management side: set TP1 through TP5 if you're scaling out, switch on auto-breakeven so the stop moves to entry once TP1 hits, set a trailing stop to kick in after that. All in the same ticket, on the same screen. The automated trade management that runs on Trade By Focus's hosted servers keeps working after you close the app — so once you've placed the trade at the right size, the platform handles the rest.

You're not doing four separate steps on four separate screens. You're doing one.

Why broker-specific contract size matters more than you think

Take two traders, same account balance, same 1% risk rule, same 20-pip stop on XAUUSD. One uses a generic mt5 lot size calculator mobile tool that assumes a standard lot is 100 ounces of gold. The other uses a calculator reading the actual broker spec.

If the broker's contract size is different — and some brokers quote gold in different unit sizes, or have different tick values — those two traders end up with different actual risk exposure even though their inputs matched. Over hundreds of trades that's not a rounding error. It's systematic mis-sizing.

Trade By Focus reads the instrument specification from your connected broker session. It's not guessing. That's the detail most phone-based position sizing tools skip, because pulling a live spec requires a live connection to the broker — which is exactly what the hosted MT5 session provides.
