Telegram Signal Copy Settings: Follow Their Signals Exactly, or Apply Your Own SL/TP

Most signal copiers give you one option: take the call, copy the numbers, done. Trade By Focus does something more considered. Each Telegram group you connect gets its own follow mode, and the choice between the two shapes how every single trade from that group behaves. Getting your telegram signal copy settings right before the first order fires isn't optional — it's the difference between trading the group's edge and accidentally overriding it.

There are two modes. One follows the group completely. The other only borrows the entry.

What "follow their signals exactly" actually means

In this mode, the group leads. Their entry, their stop loss, their take-profits — all of it comes through as-is. You set a lot size per pair and that's your only input on sizing. Everything else belongs to the signal.

That matters more than it sounds. A lot of groups manage trades after the initial call. They move stops to breakeven after a certain amount of progress. They close early when price is struggling. They update take-profit levels mid-trade, sometimes splitting a TP2 into two partials, sometimes scrapping it altogether if conditions change. In "follow their signals exactly" mode, Trade By Focus watches for those follow-up messages in real time and applies them to your open position automatically. Move-to-breakeven instruction comes through — your stop moves. SL update — your stop updates. Group closes the trade — yours closes too.

That's genuinely useful for groups that are actively managed. Some of the better ones send five or six updates across a trade's life. If you're sitting at work when that happens, you'd normally miss all of it. Here, the hosted engine running on Trade By Focus's servers catches everything without you needing the app open.

I learned this the slow way after joining a group that was actually good at post-entry management — but I was copying manually, so I only got the entry and missed every adjustment. My stop stayed where it started while theirs had moved to breakeven an hour earlier. Painful way to find out.

For groups that provide clean, specific stops and take-profits and actively manage their calls, this mode is the right one. You're effectively saying: I trust this group's risk management, let them run it.

What "use my preset" mode actually does

In this mode, you trust the group's entry — but not their risk parameters. The signal supplies the price level to enter. Your preset supplies everything else: stop loss distance, the take-profit ladder (up to five levels), breakeven trigger, and trailing stop behaviour.

A preset in Trade By Focus can carry a full TP1-through-TP5 ladder that scales you out in stages. Auto-breakeven moves your stop to entry the moment TP1 is reached, or you can cascade it up the ladder. The trailing stop can kick in from TP1, TP2, or once a fixed profit is banked. Set it once and it runs on every copied entry from that group — the hosted engine handles it whether your phone's in your pocket or off entirely.

This is the mode for groups that give entry levels but sloppy stops, or where you disagree with their risk-to-reward, or where you simply have a framework that's worked for you and you don't want to abandon it every time a signal comes in. You're borrowing their read on direction and price, not their trade management.

One thing to be clear on: preset mode only changes the SL and TP handling. It does not change when or how the entry fires. If the group sends a range call — "buy between 2318 and 2322" — that still becomes a Range Watch on the chart in Trade By Focus, a draggable zone you can adjust before it's live. A single-price call still becomes a pending order at that price. Preset mode doesn't turn a zone signal into a market order. The entry mechanic stays exactly as the signal type dictates.

That's worth spelling out because it's easy to assume preset mode gives you more control over entry timing. It doesn't. It gives you control over risk and reward management after entry.

Choosing between them

The practical way to think about it: does the group actively manage trades after the initial call, and do you trust that management? If yes, "follow their signals exactly" is probably right. You get the full picture — entry and everything that comes after.

If the group is more of a levels provider (here's where I'd buy, figure out the rest yourself), or if their stops are habitually too tight, or placed in obvious liquidity traps, then preset mode lets you use the entry signal without inheriting their risk structure.

Some traders run different modes on different groups simultaneously. A well-managed gold signals group on "follow their signals exactly", a more basic forex levels group on a preset with a tighter TP ladder. Trade By Focus handles that per-group, so the settings don't bleed across.

Before you commit either way, Signal Lab is worth running first. It scores the group's last 30 days against live prices and tells you in plain English whether the signals are actually followable — realistic entry windows, stop distances that aren't routinely hunted, that kind of thing. That verdict often makes the mode choice obvious. A group where the stops are consistently thin is a preset candidate. A group with solid risk structure and active trade management is a follow-exactly candidate.

The telegram signal copy settings conversation usually gets reduced to "just turn it on and copy". But which mode you pick for a given group has a real effect on your outcomes — not because one is better in the abstract, but because one fits the group's behaviour and one doesn't.
