You Can Copy Only the Gold Calls From a Telegram Signal Group Onto Your MT5 Account
Most Telegram signal groups call more than one thing. You join for the gold calls because someone says the gold calls are good, and then your phone buzzes all day with EURUSD, GBPUSD and whatever else the admin fancies. I bet you didn't know your MT5 account could copy that group and act on the gold calls alone. The rest get ignored. That's what an MT5 signal copier pair filter for Telegram does, and it's one screen in Trade By Focus. The MetaTrader app has never offered anything like it.
This post goes through that screen: the pair-mapping step you see when you connect a group. It covers what you pick, what happens to the calls you didn't pick, and how lot size and presets are set for each mapped pair.
Why copying a whole group is usually too much
A group isn't one strategy. It's one person, or a small team, calling whatever they're watching that day. Their gold calls might come from a proper read of the London open at 08:00 UTC and the NY open at 13:30 UTC. Their cable calls might be something they fire off in the Asian session because the chat has gone quiet. Those two sets of calls can perform very differently, and a copier that takes everything gives you the average of both.
Risk matters too. EURUSD and GBPUSD move together more often than not, so if a group calls long on both at the same time, you're carrying one dollar-short position at twice the size. Gold on a news day can move further in ten minutes than EURUSD does in a session. If the same lot size goes on every call, your risk per trade is all over the place.
I learned this the slow way. I copied a group for months without noticing that almost all the damage came from one pair I'd never have traded by choice. The journal made it obvious once I finally looked.
The pair filter step when you connect a Telegram group
You connect a group you're already a member of. There's no bot to add and nothing for the group owner to do. Trade By Focus reads the calls as they land and turns them into orders on your MT5 account, and it runs on our servers, so none of it depends on your phone being unlocked or online.
Part of connecting the group is the pair-mapping step. You're shown the instruments and you choose exactly which ones the copier will act on. Tick gold and leave EURUSD and GBPUSD unticked, and that's the rule from then on. A EURUSD call still shows up in the group on Telegram, because you're still a member. Trade By Focus won't place anything for it. Your account never sees it.
Mapping also links each instrument to the symbol your broker actually uses. One broker lists gold as XAUUSD and another adds a suffix, and a group might just type "GOLD". Once the mapping is set, the copier knows which symbol on your account each call belongs to.
One group, one instrument
Say you're in a group that calls EURUSD, GBPUSD and gold. You've watched it for a few weeks, maybe in monitor-only mode, where calls are logged without placing trades. You think the gold calls are worth following and the FX calls aren't. (Signal Rankings is useful here, since it tracks every group's calls against live prices.)
You map gold and nothing else. Then the admin posts "BUY GOLD 2640-2635, SL 2628, TP 2648 / 2655 / 2665". Because it's a range, it becomes a Range Watch zone on your chart, or a ladder of entries across the zone if you prefer. You can drag the edges while it waits. Ten minutes later they post "SELL GBPUSD 1.2830" and nothing happens on your account. Your GBPUSD exposure stays at zero, and it stays at zero however busy the group gets.
That's the whole idea: the group powers one instrument on your account. You get their gold read and none of their other calls.
Lot size and preset settings for each mapped pair
This part stops a filtered copier from being a blunt one. Each mapped pair has its own settings, so you're not stuck with one lot size for everything the group sends.
For each mapped pair you can follow the group's call exactly as posted, or apply your own preset. A preset holds your lot size, your stop handling, up to five take-profits (TP1-TP5) with a partial close at each, auto-breakeven and a trailing stop. You can keep five presets per pair and arm one. With a preset armed on gold, every gold call from the group goes in with that lot size and that management attached. When TP1 fills, the stop can move to entry on our servers. The trail can start from breakeven or from a later target. You don't touch any of it.
If you later map a second pair, say you decide the group's GBPUSD calls deserve a small allocation, that pair gets its own lot size and preset. Gold can run at your normal size with a five-level ladder while cable goes in at a fraction of that with a single target. The two don't share settings, which is right, because gold and cable don't move alike.
The per-group daily loss limit still covers the lot. Once the day's banked loss from that group reaches your figure, it stops opening anything new, whichever mapped pair the next call is for. That's covered in more depth in how to stop a signal group blowing a full day, so I won't go over it again here.
What the MetaTrader app does and doesn't do here
The MetaTrader app places trades well. It'll take a market order, a pending order and a stop, and it has a basic trailing stop that only runs while the terminal has a connection. What it doesn't do is read Telegram. So the usual way to "copy" a group through MT5 is reading the message, switching apps and typing the order in, and you do the filtering yourself by deciding what to ignore at 13:31 when the NY open is ripping through levels.
That works until you're asleep, on a train, or you've just talked yourself into the EURUSD call because the gold one hit TP3 and you're feeling clever. A filter you have to apply by hand isn't really a filter. Setting it once, on a server, and leaving it alone is the difference.
Changing your mind later
Mapping isn't permanent. You can add a pair when a group earns it or drop one when it starts chopping you up, and you can pause a single pair without disconnecting the group. Because the journal imports your whole history and splits results by symbol, you'll have actual numbers to decide with. Open a closed gold trade in Trade Replay and you'll see the group's entry, stop and targets drawn bar by bar, which tells you more about their gold read than the group chat ever will.
My view is that most groups are worth following for one or two instruments at most. The pair filter lets you take the part that works and skip the rest.
