Your MT5 Account Can Replay Any Closed Trade Bar by Bar. You Probably Didn't Know That.
Your MT5 account can do something MetaTrader never offered
Most traders treat their closed trade history as a graveyard. You open the terminal, you see a list of fills and exits with numbers next to them, and somewhere in there is the trade that annoyed you for three days. You can stare at the numbers. You can't watch it happen again.
That's not a flaw you just put up with. It's a real problem. Because the thing that lost you money wasn't usually the entry. It was the decision you made mid-trade, or an exit rule that didn't hold up under pressure, and you can't work out which one by looking at a row in a table.
Here's what you probably don't know: the MT5 account you already have can replay that closed trade bar by bar, with your entry level, your stop and your targets drawn right on the chart, rebuilding the price action candle by candle exactly as it happened. Not in MetaTrader. The MetaTrader app has never offered this. In Trade By Focus, connected to your existing MT5 account.
Where the mt5 trade replay bar by bar tool actually lives
It's inside the Journal, which is where Trade By Focus keeps your full trade history. On your first sign-in, the platform imports everything from your connected account, every closed trade going back as far as your broker holds it, and starts building your stats automatically. Win rate, profit factor, a six-axis Focus Score, a heatmap by day and session, habit cards. The Journal is doing a lot.
But Trade Replay is its own thing. Pull up any closed trade from the list and you'll see a replay option. Tap it, and you get the chart taken back to the candle just before your entry, with horizontal lines drawn where your entry was, where your stop sat, and where your targets were set. Then it plays forward, one bar at a time, at a speed you control.
You watch price approach your entry. You watch it fill. You watch what happened in the minutes and hours after, with perfect hindsight stripped away because you're moving through it sequentially, not looking at the whole thing at once.
Why this matters more than looking at a screenshot
A screenshot of a finished trade lies to you. It shows you the full move, start to finish, and your brain immediately rewrites the story so that the best exit looks obvious. You tell yourself you should have held longer, or you should have cut it sooner, and both statements feel equally true depending on which part of the chart you squint at.
Bar by bar review doesn't let you do that. You see what you saw when you were in the trade, in the order you saw it. And the question stops being "where was the best exit" and becomes "what would I have done at this candle, and what rule was I following at this candle."
That's a completely different kind of review. One is pattern-matching on a finished picture. The other is testing your process against real conditions.
I learned this the slow way after spending about two weeks convinced my entries were the problem, when the replay made it obvious my stop was consistently too tight for the timeframe I was trading. The entries were fine. I was getting clipped on normal pullbacks and then watching the trade go where I thought it would, just without me in it.
The real question replay helps you answer
There are two different problems that look identical in your results. One is that your exit rules are wrong: you're taking profit too early, your trailing stop is triggering on noise, your hard stop doesn't give the trade room to breathe. The other is that your decision-making in the moment is overriding the rules: you're moving stops manually because a candle scared you, or you're closing early because you've already had two losses today.
Both leave you with the same outcome. A closed trade that didn't reach its target. But the fix for the first is adjusting the rule, and the fix for the second is not touching the rule, it's not touching the trade.
An mt5 trade replay bar by bar review in Trade By Focus is the fastest way to separate those two. Watch the replay and pause at every decision point: your first TP, the candle that would have scared you, the bar where price pulled back before continuing. Ask yourself whether your rule would have kept you in. Then check what actually happened. If the rule would have worked and you overrode it, that's a behaviour problem. If the rule would have closed you out at a loss even if you'd followed it without touching anything, that's a rules problem.
Those are different diagnoses and they need different responses.
What a replay session actually looks like in practice
Say you had a GBPUSD long on a Tuesday, London session, opened around 08:15 UTC. Price moved in your favour for about 45 minutes, pulled back to near your entry, then pushed up through your original TP1. You moved your stop up when it pulled back and got stopped out for a small loss before the move continued.
In MetaTrader, you see the exit time, the fill price, the loss. That's all you have.
In Trade By Focus, you open the Journal, find that trade, and start the bar by bar replay. The chart backs up to before your entry. You watch the London open candles build. You see your entry line appear as price fills. You watch the 45-minute run-up with your TP1 level sitting above price. Then the pullback candle forms, the one that made you move the stop. And you can sit with that candle and ask: at this moment, with this information, did my rule say anything about moving the stop?
If your rule was "stop stays at entry unless TP1 hits", you moved it for a reason that wasn't your rule. That's the thing to fix. Not the entry. Not the target. The thing you did when a candle made you nervous.
That's what an mt5 trade replay bar by bar session is actually for. Not reliving pain. Finding the precise moment where process broke down, so you can be honest about which part of the process it was.
