Your MT5 Account Can Trade Gold With Exactly the Same Rules Every Time
Most traders have a set of rules for gold. A fixed lot size relative to account size, a stop placement they trust, a take-profit ladder, maybe an auto-breakeven once TP1 hits. They know these rules. They've written them down somewhere. And then, in the moment, they ignore half of them because price moved while they were thinking, or it's 15:30 and the NY open just ripped through a level, and suddenly they're winging the size.
This is not a discipline failure. It's a design failure. You're asking yourself to make six separate decisions under pressure, every single time, for the same instrument. What you actually want is to make those decisions once, save them to the pair, and have every gold trade go in fully configured from the first tap.
That's what an mt5 trade preset per pair does inside Trade By Focus. And most people who connect their MT5 account have no idea it's there.
What a XAUUSD preset actually stores
When you build a preset for a specific pair in Trade By Focus, you're not just saving a lot size. You're saving the whole trade plan.
The preset holds your lot size, your stop distance, and up to five take-profit levels (TP1 through TP5) with a partial close percentage at each one. So you might close 30% at TP1, 30% at TP2, and leave 40% running. It also stores your auto-breakeven setting (whether the stop moves to entry when TP1 fills, or at a later level), and your trailing stop configuration: when it activates, how tight it tracks, and whether it starts at a specified TP level or once a certain amount of profit is in the bag.
You save up to five presets per pair. Then you arm one. From that point forward, every new trade you open on XAUUSD goes in with all of that pre-loaded. You're not setting the stop at entry. You're not fumbling the partial-close percentages while the spread is wide. You tap once, the trade opens fully managed, and the platform handles the rest from its servers, with the app closed if you want.
Building the XAUUSD preset in Trade By Focus
Open the app, go to your XAUUSD pair, and pull up the preset builder. Start with lot size. For gold, this is worth getting right once rather than recalculating every session. Gold moves fast, spreads widen around the London open and into the NY overlap (roughly 13:30 UTC), and a careless size on a 200-pip move is a different conversation than on GBPUSD.
Set your stop distance in pips. Most traders who've spent time on gold have a number they come back to, something that clears the noise without sitting 400 pips out. Fix it here.
Then build the TP ladder. TP1, TP2, and so on, with the partial-close percentage at each. The platform will distribute your position across as many levels as you set. You can have a single TP and a trailing stop, or a full five-level scale-out; whatever your actual strategy calls for.
If you want auto-breakeven, toggle it on and choose at which TP it triggers. A common setup for gold is to move the stop to entry when TP1 fills, then let the trailing stop start at TP2. That way the trade is risk-free by the time it's clipped its first target, and the remainder runs with a floor.
Name the preset something you'll recognise, save it, and arm it to XAUUSD. The arming step is what links it to the pair. After that, every trade you open on gold goes in with this configuration by default.
Why gold specifically benefits from this
Gold has a particular way of punishing improvised entries. It can sit on its hands through the Tokyo session (00:00 UTC), do nothing meaningful through the early London hours, and then spike 80 pips in four candles around 08:00 UTC when the London fix approaches or a data print drops. At that point, you don't have time to decide whether you want a 20-pip stop or a 35-pip stop. Price has already moved.
I learned this the slow way after spending six weeks adjusting my XAUUSD stop on the fly and then wondering why my results on the same setup looked completely different week to week. The trades weren't the problem. The inconsistency was.
The mt5 trade preset per pair removes that variable. You've already decided, in a calm moment, what this trade looks like. The live session is just execution.
It also matters on the exit side. Gold can run 150 pips and then reverse 100 in a session. Without a defined take-profit ladder, you either hold through the reversal hoping for more, or you close manually and almost always get the timing wrong. A preset with TP1 through TP3 spread across the expected move means you're banking profit automatically, at levels you set when you were thinking clearly, not when you're watching a candle form.
One armed preset versus five open decisions
The alternative to all of this is what most MT5 traders are actually doing: opening the MetaTrader app, placing a market order with a rough stop, and managing the rest manually. Maybe they move the stop at some point. Maybe they close half at a level that felt good. Maybe they trail it by dragging. All of that runs on attention and time, and it stops working the moment the phone goes in a pocket.
Trade By Focus runs the management on its own servers. The auto-breakeven fires when TP1 fills, the trailing stop activates at TP2, the position scales out at each level, and none of it needs the app open. You could be in a meeting, in a bad signal zone, asleep, and the preset keeps working.
That's not a small thing for anyone trading gold across multiple sessions. The London-to-NY overlap is the best part of the XAUUSD day and it's also when you're least likely to be sitting at a screen.
The mt5 trade preset per pair approach also works across other instruments. You build a preset for GBPUSD with different parameters, arm it, and the same discipline applies. But gold is where most traders feel the inconsistency first, so it's a good place to start.
